Media interest in all topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic was immediate and enduring, and once constituted in early March 2020, the Response and Recovery Task Force acted as a credible and reliable source of information, as it pertains to the tourism and hospitality sector. The Task Force’s Issues Management and Communications Working Group – using information provided by the Impact Assessment Working Group and other teams – creates materials to enable effective media outreach, as well as cataloguing emerging issues, supporting Task Force spokespersons and managing media interview requests.

The Communications team also gathers Task Force member stories, and provides that information as ‘case studies’ to illustrate, for media and the general public, the impact of the pandemic on the sector. Our work in this regard can be seen in the compilation of stories – in print, on radio, television, and online – which focus on the impact of COVID-19 on companies which underpin the visitor economy, and our calls for government to factor this impact into ongoing policy development.
