GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
As the visitor economy moves through uncharted territory, the Sector Recovery Strategy Work Group needs to be a resource where stakeholders can connect and collaborate and be ready for when the recovery is upon us. And help to organize and synergize recovery plan efforts across the region. This includes:
- Re-building demand in the visitor economy by connecting industry partners together in Metro Vancouver;
- Becoming a connector and a resource for partners by summarizing the potential campaigns and initiatives that are happening and are accessible to Metro Vancouver partners. These could be potential buy-in or co-op campaigns put forth by Destination Canada, Destination BC, Tourism Vancouver, etc.;
- Becoming an information repository that communicates the status of business operators/hotels/attractions – as they get back on track in terms of operations;
- Support the industry to ensure we have suppliers to support and promote the Events Industry in the future.
TACTICS:
This group will help create pathways and opportunities for operators, hotels, DMOs and other tourism and hospitality business to get on track to recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to do so, we will:
- Work with municipal governments to determine how hospitality and tourism operators can address cities’ priorities: i.e. labour, goods, food services, properties;
- Identify specific challenges as they relate to effective recovery;
- Create an information repository of the status of business operations within the sector;
- Create an information repository detailing recovery campaign details and potential buy-in details – from wherever we can – Destination Canada, Destination BC, and other regional initiatives;
- Create a business recovery readiness toolkit. That could be adapted and modified to suite all the business types that are part of the task force.
